C'était mon premier jour au Canada, il y a une semaine. Brrrgh ! Mais depuis, l'aiguille rouge a tourné du coté "positif" du thermomètre ...

This was taken on my first day in Canada, but since then the needle has moved over to the other side of 0°. 

Galettes - Chair cushions

Bonjour ! C'était un week-end "couture" car les tabourets achetés pour la cuisine à la campagne était livrés avec des galettes couvertes en 100% coton blanc cassé. C'est TRES pratique pour la sauce de salade ou la sauce spaghetti ... :) Inutile de vous dire que elles étaient très vite dans un très sale état.  

En mars, ma mère et moi avions l'intention de recouvrir les chaises de la salle à manger avec ce "faux cuir" (mais ça n'a pas marché comme cela devait marcher - grimace), donc j'avais ce tissu déjà en stock dans mon atelier. Après quelques heures derrière ma machine à coudre, les 4 tabourets portent maintenant de jolies galettes, couleur chocolat, avec des liens faits avec le ruban gros grain de chez Stampin' Up!.  (Cliquez sur les photos pour les agrandir.)

Hello there! I spent some time at my sewing machine this past weekend. The stools for the kitchen were delivered (can you believe it) with off-while 100% cotton fabric on the cushions, which was great for showing off the salad dressing and spaghetti sauce stains! They were only a few months old, but looked horrible!

In March, when Mom and I first decided to recover the chairs in the dining room, we had chosen this "faux leather" fabric, but that didn't work out as it was supposed to ... so the fabric was "added to my stock" in my workshop. It came in handy, though, when I decided to recover the stools in the kitchen! Now, the sauces will wipe up easily, the chocolate colour looks great in the kitchen, and the Stampin' Up! grosgrain ribbon is just perfect for the ties! (Click on the photos to enlarge them.)

Vacation's over - Finies, les vacances !

       

Bonjour - Si vous aussi, vous avez repris le travail aujourd'hui, j'espère que vos vacances étaient bonnes et que vous avez fait la pleine d'énergie ! Pour ma part, les vacances sont rarement reposantes, mais cette année nous avons vraiment profité de la maison à la campagne ... c'était génial !

Voilà, je reprends donc mes activités diverses et variées ... et  ma "rentrée" a commencé avec un sachet de lavande pour  l'anniversaire d'une amie. J'avais envie de tamponner sur du tissu. (Le tissu est un vieux drap en lin de chez mes beaux-parents.) Comme un sachet de lavande ne sera jamais lavé, cela m'était égal d'utiliser une encre "non-permanante" (ici, une encre couleur "lavande" de SU! et une DISTRESS couleur antique lin). 

J'ai repris les mêmes couleurs pour faire la petite carte, qui est attachée au sachet avec un fil de (faux) lin. Les tampons sont du set "carte postale" de chez Stampin' Up!.

Si vous avez envie d'en créer : commencez avec un carré de lin de 22 cm de coté -- cela demande une certaine quantité de lavande pour le remplir, ce qui ne représente pas de problème chez moi car mon cher époux nous a planté une vingtaine de pieds de lavande! Ensuite : tamponnez,  pliez le carré en 2, faites un ourlet en haut, cousez le coté long et le bas, remplissez avec la lavande, fermez et nouez. C'est simple comme bonjour !

Hello! If you, too, are just back from vacation, I hope you had a wonderful time off and that you're attacking autumn with lots of punch and energy! Vacation is rarely relaxing for me, but this year we were able to spend quality time with friends and family at our country house -- it was wonderful! 

So, now I'm back to my many-and-varied occupations. To start off the season, I've made a stamped lavender sachet for a friend's birthday. I used an old linen sheet that was from my mother-in-law's trousseau.  Since a lavender sachet will never be washed, I didn't mind that the ink I used wasn't permanent. (I've used a lavender tone from SU! and antique linen Distress ink.)  I then used the same colours for the card, which is attached to the sachet with a linen-type thread.

The stamps are from Stampin' Up! (Carte postale).

If you'd like to try making one, start with a 22 cm square piece of fabric. That makes a "healthy" sized sachet, so you'll need a fair quantity of lavender -- which is not a problem for me, as Hubby has planed about 20 lavender plants! Stamp your fabric, fold it in half, hem the top edge, sew the side and bottom edges, fill it with lavender and then close it. Easy as pie!

Lavender sachets - sachets de lavande

Quand ma mère est venue en mars, elle nous a apporté un "quilt" qu'elle a dessiné et cousu cet hiver.  Pour toute la piqûre à la main, elle s'est fait aider par ses voisines.  (Je vous mettrai une photo du quilt sur ce blog un autre jour.)  Pour remercier les dames qui ont participé au "quiltage" (j'invente des mots, là!), nous leur avons fabriqué des sachets de lavande -- lavande de notre jardin, roses en ruban faites de mes mains et des sachets fabriqués à partir du lin des anciens draps de mes beaux-parents.  Le "A" (brodé avec ma machine à coudre) est pour Avignon, bien sûr !

My mother designed and made a quilt for us this past winter, that she brought with her in March.  Some of her neighbours helped her with the hand-sewing.  (I'll post a photo of the quilt another day.)  To thank the ladies that participated in the quilting, we made them lavender sachets.  The lavender is from our garden, I made the ribbon roses and the sachets are made out of old linen sheets belonging to my parents-in-law.  The "A" on the sachets (embroidered with my sewing machine) stands for "Avignon", of course!

Galon - Trim

Un autre des nombreux talents de ma mère est la tapisserie -- chose que je n'avais jamais faite auparavant.  Pendant son séjour ici, elle a attaqué nos chaises de la salle à manger ... voici le résultat.  Elle est repartie au Canada hier, et j'ai du coller le galon seule-comme-une-grande aujourd'hui,.  Il m'en restait quelques dizaines de centimètres ... vous verrez ce que j'ai fait avec un petit bout du galon sur le sachet-du-sachet (!) de lavande, ci-dessous.  Jessica l'amènera en Espagne ce week-end car il fera partie du cadeau qu'elle offrira à ses hôtes.

As I've already said, my mother is a person of many talents -- one of them being upholstering.  While she was here, she re-did our dining room chairs.  She left to go back home yesterday, and so I had to glue the trim onto them all by myself this afternoon -- I guess I managed to get it straight enough.    I had just slightly overestimated the quantity I needed, and you'll see below what I did with a little bit of my leftover trim -- I used it on the packaging of a lavender sachet that Jessica will take to Spain with her this week-end, as part of her gift to her hosts.

Si vous ne la connaissez pas, vous ne pouvez pas savoir que ma mère est très douée pour PLEIN de choses ... y compris la composition florale.  (D'ailleurs, j'ai souvent dit que si j'ai le moindre brin de talent artistique, c'est grâce à elle!)  Ce matin, nous sommes allées acheter un petit bouquet, très banal, de fleurs mélangées.  Voici ce qu'elle en a fait !  Ca m'épate ... faut que j'apprenne à faire ça !  (Le bouquet était pour une amie, qui nous a fait un déjeuner royal aujourd'hui !  Merci, Jeepy !)  

If you don't know my mother, you have no way of knowing that she's pretty talented in a lot of ways ... including flower arrangements!  (I've often said that if I have the least bit of artistic talent, it's all thanks to her!)  This morning, we went to buy a very boring bouquet of mixed flowers, and this is what she managed to do with it.  I really must learn how to do that!  (The bouquet was for a friend, who treated us to a fabulous lunch today!  Thanks, Jeepy!)

Bonbons pour Isabelle - Candies for Isabelle

Des couleurs gaies pour un bocal de bonbons et sa boîte assortie.  C'est un bocal à confiture ... j'aurais du, peut-être, remettre de la confiture dedans au lieu des bonbons, mais les couleurs des papiers-emballage m'ont plues!

Fun colours for a jar of candies with a matching box.  It's a jam jar ... maybe Isabelle would've preferred that I refill it with jam instead of candies, but I couldn't resist the bright and bold candy wrappers!

Lin (en)

Voici le premier d'une petite série de projets réalisés en "lin" : un carnet de chez Stampin' Up!  Je l'ai décoré avec un carré de lin tamponné (encreur Craft White) et l'une de mes fameuses "roses en ruban".  (Cliquez ici si vous voulez visionner la vidéo.)

Here's the first of several "LINEN" projects : a notebook from Stampin' Up! that I've decorated.  I used a square piece of linen that I have stamped with the White Craft Ink and one of my world-famous Ribbon Roses.  (Click here if you'd like to see the video.)

 

Beyhan

Beyhan est une collègue de travail et lundi est son anniversaire.  Pour le lui fêter, j'ai décoré un cadre tout simple (vous les avez déjà vus, ces cadres, sur mon blog) avec le jeu de tampons "Carte Postale".  C'est un peu chargé, je vous l'accorde, mais ça fait un style bien anglais, je trouve ...  qui plaît à mes gènes !!   PS  L'estampage est, en réalité, très nette  ; c'est juste que j'ai rendu "flous" les bords de ma photo !

Beyhan is a lady that I work with, and Monday is her birthday.  To celebrate it, I decorated a very plain frame for her, using the "Carte Postale" stamp set from Stampin' Up!  (You've already seen some of these re-looked frames  on my blog.)  The overall effect is certainly very "busy", very "English" -- and, genetically speaking, it appeals to me!  PS  The stamping is very clean on the frame itself -- it's the edges of the photo that I blurred!

 

...et un deuxième cadeau emballé - and a second gift wrapped

Voici mon deuxième paquet cadeau de la saison.  J'ai juste couvert le logo du magasin de ce joli sac avec une photo "scrappée" du destinataire du cadeau.  'Sais pas pour vous, mais j'ai pas mal du stock à utiliser, donc cet emballage est agrémenté de trombones de l'ancien kit Hodge-podge hardware" & des chutes du kit "Christmas Jingle".  Les tampons sont de chez Stampin' Up! : "présents parfaits".

Here's my 2nd wrapped present of the season.  I covered the logo of the store that gave me this pretty bag with a scrapped photo of the recipient of this present.  Since I have lots of stock to use up, you'll find paper clips from the old Hodge-podge hardware kit and scraps of the Christmas Jingle kit on this gift.  The stamps are from the Perfect Presents set from SU!

Voici un banal petit cadre (environ 10x10 cm), que j'ai acheté pendant les soldes après Noël 2008.  Une fois transformée, ça donne ...

I bought this small, rather boring frame during the after-Christmas sales last year.  After a bit of work, this is what I've got:

Modification

Christmas tea - Thé de Noël

Cette boîte de thé vide sera vite remplie ... avec le délicieux Thé de Noël, parfumé à la cannelle (que j'aime tant) !  Ce projet est la suite du bocal des fraises Tagada ... même papiers, même set de tampons ... j'ai simplement changé la couleur du noeud.  

I'll fill this empty box of green tea with Christmas tea ... you know, the one that has a hint of cinammon flavour to it!  This little project is the logical folllow-up to the asparagus jar from yesterday:  same papers, same set of stamps.  Only the colour of the bow has changed!

Des asperges deviennent des fraises Tagada !

Strawberry candies fill an empty asparagus jar!

J'adore créer "quelque chose" à partir de "rien" !  Cette fois-ci, c'est un bocal d'asperges vide que j'ai rempli de fraises Tagada après l'avoir décoré d'une bande de DSP (qui veut dire Designer Series Paper), avec l'un des tampons du set "Tree Trimmings" ( de chez Stampin' Up!).  Un petit noeud papillon, et c'est prêt à offrir (ou déguster !!).  Le couvercle du bocal est aussi décoré, mais cela ne se voit pas dans la photo.

I just love creating "something" from "nothing".  Here, I've filled an empty asparagus jar with Strawberry candies after it was decorated with a bit of DSP (Designer Series Paper) and one of the stamps from Stampin' Up!'s  set called "Tree Trimmings".  A turquoise bow finishes it off -- now it's ready to give (or eat!).  The lid is also decorated, but you can't see that in my photo.
