Too cold for a frig!!

Pourquoi toute cette activité dans ma cuisine, vous demandez-vous ?? Et bien, parce qu'un frigo/congélateur SAMSUNG ne fonctionne qu'entre 10° et 43°. ET COMME IL FAIT FROID en Provence en ce moment, le frigo (vieux de 3 semaines !) dans le garage s'est mis en "securité". Tu parles ! Pour résumer, cela veut dire que tout ce qui était dans le congélo était bon à faire cuire ... Le gentil monsieur du magasin où nous avons acheté ce merveilleux appareil m'a suggéré de le rentrer au chaud. Mais bon, je le vois assez mal dans notre séjour/salle à manger, donc je l'ai simplement débranché (après l'avoir vidé pour tout fait cuire) et je le laisse au froid ! Non, mais !! Il fait trop froid pour un frigo ! Je dream, je hallucine (ha ha, ça, c'est Marie-Hélène qui parle !!!).

Ok, so you're wondering why I'm showing you my kitchen counter-top with 16 things cooking all at once? Glad you asked! Did you know that fridges only work when the temperature is between 10° and 43°C ? Nope, neither did I. And since it's cold here in Provence right now, our new SAMSUNG fridge (that we just bought 3 weeks ago for the garage) went on the blink! When I phoned the salesman (who is a nice guy, actually), he suggested that I bring it in out of the cold!! Now, don't get me wrong, it's a fine-looking fridge -- but I don't really have a spot for it in the living/dining room!! So, after having emptied it and cooked all that was in it (hence the photo), I unplugged it and have LEFT IT OUT IN THE COLD. Arrgh.

Fleur

Nous avons récupéré ce cadre (vide) quand nous avons fait les travaux dans la maison. C'est un peu clinquant, oui, mais j'ai du mal à jeter des choses en bon état qui peuvent toujours servir ! J'ai donc fait découper une planche de medium basic, que j'ai peint, puis j'ai écrit sur la peinture (j'ai recopié du texte d'une dictionnaire botanique - sans blague !), puis j'ai fait des roses avec un vieux drap, puis j'ai cherché un ruban assorti, et des plumes aussi ... et puis ...voici le résultat, qui maintenant embellit une chambre d'invités.

When we were doing our house renvovations, I didn't have the heart to throw out this perfectly good frame (even if it's a bit too bling-bling for my taste). I had a piece of medium cut (you know, that cheap wood-type-stuff) that I put a base coat of paint on, then I wrote on the paint (copied text out of a botanical dictionary -- no kidding!), then I made roses out of an old sheet, then I found some matching ribbon and feathers ... and there you have it -- it is now hanging in one of our guest bedrooms!

Sur le pont ...

Une petite carte "du pont" avec de la calligraphie autour de la photo en sépia de notre fameux pont d'Avignon et aussi sur le tag glissé sous celui-ci. Je renoue avec la calligraphie après mes années de renovations ...  quel plaisir ! Depuis deux semaines, j'ai passé beaucoup de temps à préparer un cours sur les "capitales romaines" (les majuscules, comprenez-moi, pas les villes) pour une classe de latinistes. Ce ne sont pas mes lettres préférées, mais j'ai aimé faire ce travail, dans le silence, avec pour seul bruit le son de ma plume sur la feuille ! Dès que j'aurai cinq minutes, je mettrai quelque lettres sur le site de Pleins et Déliés : calligraphie-en-ligne.com

Here's a small card featuring a sepia photo of the famous Avignon bridge, with some calligraphy around the photo as well as on the tag slipped "under the bridge". After years of building-works, I'm thrilled to have ink stains on my fingers again! Over the last couple of weeks, I've spent quite a bit of time putting together a course on Roman Capitals (letters, not cities). Even though these are not my favourite calligraphied letters, I really enjoyed the work ... dead silence, with only the sound of my nib scraping on the paper. Heaven! As soon as I can find the time, I'll put some letters on the calligraphy club's site : calligraphie-en-ligne.com

Pheasant - Faisan

   

Voici l'une des raisons pour lesquelles j'adore tant la maison à la campagne ! Nous déjeunions sur la terrasse avec des amis à la Toussaint, quand un joli faisan est venu tout près de nous. Heureusement, j'ai eu mon appareil photo à portée de la main. La cliché la plus réussie est devenue une carte d'anniversaire pour Alan, qui était avec nous ce jour-là. 

Just one more reason to love the house in the country ... Near the end of October, we were having lunch on the terrace with friends when this pretty pheasant came strutting by. As luck would have it, my camera was handy! One of the shots has been made into a birthday card for Alan, who was lunching with us that day.

A perfect pair (a perfect père)

Petit jeu de mots utilisé par Jessica sur le cadeau d'anniversaire pour son père. Sur le cadre, en haut, 3 petits tags sont suspendus à un fil de lin ; chaque tag comporte un mot pour lire "a perfect pair". En dessous de la photo, le texte a été imprimé sur une feuille de cardstock, puis découpé et collé "comme ça". 

I'm sure even those who don't speak a word of French can understand this little play on words on the frame that Jessica made for her dad's birthday. Over the photo, Jessica hung 3 little tags on a piece of linen string. Each tag has one word written on it, to read "a perfect pair". For the text at the bottom, she printed it onto a piece of cardstock, then cut the letters out individually and glued them "helter-skelter" to read "a perfect père". That's m'girl!

Cours de calligraphie à Jonquerettes

 

Les cours de calligraphie à Jonquerettes ont commencé jeudi, le 5 janvier 2012. Les personnes qui sont venues se sont régalées (me semble-t-il) à tracer de belles lettres. Cela vous tente ? Venez nous rejoindre - il y a encore de la place !

The first calligraphy class in Jonquerettes took place on Thursday, 5th January 2012. I think the ladies that came really enjoyed themselves. There's still room for more, so come and join us!

This text roughly translates into "Today's good times are tomorrow's happy memories." So, have yourself a year filled to the brim of good times, that will turn into tomorrow's wonderful memories. (The calligraphy is done in Rustica.)

Christmas present number one

Trois jours avant Noël ! Bon, d'accord, je ne suis pas très en avance ! Mais voici le premier cadeau, assemblé et emballé. Eh oui, c'est du thé ... l'année 2012 sera celle de MaryThé !! 

You're right, I'm running a little behind, but FINALLY, my gifts are wrapped. Here's the first one, for Aurélie. Yep! It's tea ... 2012 is going to the a T-year. You'll see more about that here on this blog as the weeks go by. 

Scrap : une page par Jessica

Et oui, c'est vrai. C'est LE grand jour ... je suis née il y a un demi siècle !! Ci-dessus, la page scrappée par Jessica pour mon anniversaire, avec une photo prise il y a vingt ans !!!!  (Tous ces grands chiffres me donnent le tournis !) En tous cas, j'aime beaucoup ce qu'elle a fait -- je vais l'encadrer. 

Yes, it's true. Today is D-Day for the "half-century" mark. Above, a photo of the page that Jessica scrapped for my birthday, with a photo taken 20 years ago! (All these big numbers are making me dizzy!) At any rate, I love what she did and am going to frame it.

Christmas cards

          

Bonjour ! Enfin, me voici de retour sur mon blog. Le mois de décembre est un long enchainement de marchés de Noël, ateliers de calligraphie dans des collèges (classes de 6° et 5°) et ... bien sûr ... les préparatifs pour Noël. (Oui, l'association Pleins & Déliés peut animer des ateliers d'introduction à la calligraphie dans les collèges, souvent dans le cadre des "escapades collégiennes".)

Il y a parfois de longs moments d'attente aux marchés de Noël, donc je m'occupe avec la confection de cartes. Celles qui sont photographiées ci-dessus ne sont pas des chefs d'oeuvre, car sur les marchés je travaille avec un stricte minimum de matériel. Par contre, j'étais très satisfaite de la tenue de l'encre "Distress" sur le papier photo (tout le papier blanc sur les cartes est du papier photo, celui qui est parfois livré avec les cartouches d'encre pour l'imprimante).

Il reste onze jours avant Noël ... et seulement quatre avant mon anniversaire géant :(   Courage !

Hello! Finally, I've found 5 minutes to add a note to this blog. December is a hairy month, with Christmas markets, calligraphy workshops in Junior High Schools and ... of course ... getting ready for Christmas. 

The time is sometimes long at Christmas markets, so I use it to make cards. The ones that are shown above are not works of art, as I take very few supplies with me. However, I was quite satisfied with the Distress ink on photo paper (all the white paper on the cards is photo paper, that was included in the package with my printer's ink cartridges). 

Only 11 days 'til Christmas (and only 4 left to go before that awful, big b-day). Sniff! Take a deep breath and .... go get 'em!

Plaque pour Nicole

Pour Nicole, ses amies calligraphes ne pouvaient pas se contenter d'une inscription de série. J'ai donc fourni un gabarit aux marbrier pour qu'il fasse une plaque unique ... pour une amie qui aimait sa plume et son parchemin. Régine et moi sommes allés avec l'époux  de Nicole pour la placer sur sa tombe hier. Un moment d'émotion ...

We didn't want to just buy an ordinary plaque for Nicole's tomb so I drew up a stencil that I gave to the stone-engraver. A unique memorial stone for a unique friend -- one who loved her quill and parchment. Régine and I went to the cemetary yesterday with Nicole's husband to put it on her grave. It was very moving ...

Advent Calendar (an old version)

 

Cette vidéo date d'il y a deux ans, mais si vous cherchez désespérément une idée pour votre calendrier de l'avent, peut-être elle vous serait utile. Par contre, je n'ai plus la fiche avec les dimensions, mais ... vous êtes débrouillardes ... vous trouverez toutes seules ! (Dépechez-vous ; le 1er décembre est dans 3 jours !)

This is a video that dates from 2 years ago, but if you're desperately wracking your brain for an idea for your advent calendar, maybe it'll be of some help. I don't have the file with the dimensions anymore, but ... you'll figure something out ! (Hurry, you only have 3 days left!)

Family

 

Voici une façon originale de présenter des photos de votre "Fa Mille". Les lettres sont prédécoupées en MDF (Artchoum). Avant d'y coller mes photos, j'ai peint la base aux couleurs de la pièce où j'accrocherai ma "Fa Mille" !! Je poste les 2 photos car je n'ai pas encore décidé dans quel sens je mettrai le mot -- je penche (c'est le cas de le dire) pour la photo d'en haut. Qu'en pensez-vous ?

This is an original way to display family photos. The lettres are cut out of pressboard (from Artchoum). Before gluing my photos onto the base, I painted it to match the walls of the room that I'm going to hang it in. I'm posting both photos because I'm not yet sure how I'm going to hang this up, but I'm leaning (get the pun?) for the top photo. What d'you think ?

Flower Power

Ces couleurs vives ne sont pas typiquement "mmj", mais j'aime beaucoup le papier du fond de chez Artchoum. Je ne me souviens pas du nom -- ce sont de jolis papiers que l'on ponce pour faire ressortir le relief. Bref, il y a assez peu de créativité dans cette carte car tout est dans les fleurs en papier et les brillants auto-collants. Ah oui, et deux maleureuses lettres calligraphiées !!  

En ce moment je cours beaucoup entre la vente des calendriers (faites-moi signe si vous en voulez) et l'association des parents d'élèves. Je serai à la Grande Castelette en Avignon demain et puis aux Mains de Femmes à Toulon ce week-end, donc passez me voir si vous êtes dans le coin. A bientôt !

These loud colours aren't usual for me, but I so liked the red textured paper, that I had to find a way to use it! The paper comes from Artchoum, but I don't remember what the brand name is. You sand it a bit for the texture to show up like it does in the photo. It's not really a very creative card, with purchased paper flowers and self-stick shiny bits -- oh, and 2 measy letters in calligraphy!

I'm runny like a chicken with its head cut off these days, between the parents association and selling the calligraphy calendars. I'm doing a sale in Avignon tomorrow and then a bigger craft sale in Toulon on the weekend. That explains why the posts are a little scarce these days ...

Album for Jean

Oui, vous savez que j'aime les roses ! Ici, c'est un album accordéon (Rayher chez Artchoum) que j'ai fait pour ma tante. (Jean, c'est comme Jeanne en anglais.) Le lin du fond a été tamponné avec l'un des mes tampons ROSES en utilisant l'encreur "craft white" de chez Stampin' Up. L'étiquette est découpée avec le "word window" punch ; les lettres de son prénom sont tracées à la main levée avec un feutre indélibile. Comment faire pour découper du tissu avec nos perforatrices ? En collant une sorte de viseline sur le dos du tissu !

Yeah, yeah -- by now you know that I love roses. This is a fold-out album that I made for my aunt Jean. (Got the album at Artchoum; it's made by Rayher.) I stamped the linen for the background with Stampin' Up's white craft ink, using one of my rose stamps. The tag on the front was cut out using the word window punch (the lettres are handwritten with a permanent marker). How do you use your punches on fabric? All you have to do is apply iron-on interfacing to the back of your fabric!

Hallowe'en Lunch

C'est vrai, j'aime décorer la table quand nous recevons des amis. Comme c'est la saison de Hallowe'en ... je ne pouvais pas résister ! J'avais plein de décorations au sous-sol qui dataient de quand ma fille était petite, que j'ai du dépoussiérer. Puis, je me suis amusé avec le menu aussi (soupe de grenouilles = soupe de poireaux, vautour rôti = canard au four, gratin de pommes de vers = gratin de pommes de terre, fromages au montstre de laine et de lait (facile) et puis, en dessert, un gâteau de crème rance aux noix pourries = maple & pécan cheesecake). Yummy ! (Voyez-vous les serviettes tamponnées ??)

Hallowe'en has absolutely no significance in France, but I don't let a little thing like that stop me! We had friends here for lunch today, and I had tons of fun decorating the table and the buffet with decorations that I used when Jessica was little. Just had to dust them off a little ... Then, I went to work on the menu : frog soup = leek soup, roast vulture = roast duck, potato gratin = worm gratin (there's a play on words there that's impossible to translate), then there were wool monster and milk monster cheeses. For dessert, a sour cream & rotten nuts cake = maple and pecan cheesecake. It was all very delicious, trust me! LOL (PS - do you see the stamp on the serviettes?)

 Voici un mini-album "maison" réalisé sur une base proposé par Archoum. Je me suis régalée à le faire, et il a beaucoup plu au salon ID Créatives à Clermont le week-end dernier. Les papiers sont de BO BUNNY (aussi dispo chez Magali à Artchoum) - ils comportent des motifs qui me plaisent et des couleurs qui sont tout à fait dans mes tons de prédilection ... Comme "maison" égale "famille", je vais offrir l'album à ma mère pour son anniversaire.

This "house" mini-album was created on a base that is available through Artchoum. I had a riot making it and it went over very well at the ID Créatives fair in Clermont Ferrand last week-end. The papers are from BO BUNNY (also available through Magali at Artchoum). I like the patterns on the papers and the colours are just so ... ME! Since house = family, I'm giving the album to Mom for her birthday.

It's all in the bag!

Deux feuilles A4, une demi feuille imprimé 30x30, 4 maxi-oeillets et un peu de ficelle ... et ça fait CA !  Nous avons un cher ami qui a feté son anniversaire la semaine dernière -- il est FAN de la belle musique, donc ce sac a été fabriqué aux bonnes dimensions pour accueillir un DVD. Sobre, masculin mais gai en même temps ...

Pensez à vous inscrire à scrap-en-ligne si vous voulez avoir accès aux douze projets que je proposerai tout au long de 2012. (Sinon, contentez-vous des photos sur Facebook !!)

Two sheets of A4 cardstock and half a 30x30 DSP, 4 big eyelets and a bit of left-over string, and this is what you get! A dear friend of ours (a fan of classical music) celebrated his birthday last week, so this bag was made to measure for a DVD. Mannish, yes,  but not too boring ...

Revenons sur le salon un petit moment -- j'ai eu beaucoup de plaisir de travailler avec Magali à nouveau, et de rencontrer Martine de Scrapflowers ... vous m'entendrez parler d'elle à nouveau, dès que j'aurai essayé le gabarait "Fleur d'M" que j'ai acheté. 

Whew! The trip to Clermont Ferrand is a bit tedious, but the salon was great fun. I met tons of nice people (of course! Scrappers and stampers are great people!).  I've put some information about the upcoming crop into a document (above), which is all in French ... and I don't think I'll bother translating it since I doubt many anglo's will come to Jonquerettes for the workshop! (Although we'd love to have you if you want to make the trip!)

ID Créatives Clermont : make & take 1

 

C'est bientôt le salon des ID créatives à Clermont -- et j'y vais ! Je serai au stand de Magali (Artchoum) et vous proposerai 3 make-and-takes. Le premier, un tag, est photographié ci-dessus ; je mettrai des photos des autres dans les prochains jours. Je ne peux arriver que le vendredi soir - travail oblige - mais je serai ravie de vous voir là-bas !

Hello. If you're reading this in English, I highly doubt that I'll see you at the ID Créatives show in Clermond Ferrand ... but who knows? I'm going to be with Magali from Artchoum, and will be doing short make-&-take workshops. The photo of the first project, a tag, is above, and I'll post the others over the next few days.  

Oh, and the calligraphied calendars have arrived, so I'll be taking them with me, too :)

Meme si nous avons participé au cadeau collectif qui a été organisé, je voulais faire un petit quelque chose en plus pour Françoise, qui part à la retraite. L'autre jour, j'avais remarqué un bouquin sur le "scrap en feutrine" sur mes étagères, et l'idée est partie de là. 

J'ai d'abord réalisé le sac, avec l'intention de mettre de la mousse verte pour compositions florales au fond. Ensuite, j'ai repris les memes couleurs pour la carte et puis, au moment d'acheter les fleurs, j'ai choisi des tons que l'on retrouve dans les couleurs de feutrine. 

Meme si je n'ai pas les dons de ma maman pour les compositions florales, l'effet final ne m'a pas déplu! (Cliquez sur les images pour les agrandir.)

For Françoise's retirement party, we all chipped in for a voyage, but I wanted to add a little something personal. The other day, I noticed a book on "scrapbooking with felt" on my bookshelves, and that's where the inspiration came from.

I first sewed the little bag with the idea of putting a piece of oasis in the bottom of it for the flowers. Next, I made the card to match. And when it was time to buy the flowers, I did my best to match the tones of some of the felt pieces.

Unfortunately, I'm not gifted (like my Mom) for flower arranging, but the end effect was ... satisfactory! (Click on the photos to enlarge them.)

 

Crop en vue

Après quatre ans de "repos", l'association Pleins & Déliés se réveille ! (Disons que les 4 ans n'ont pas été de tout repos pour moi, juste pour l'association. Bref ...)

Avec Magali, nous proposons un CROP (atelier de scrapbooking, mais ça, vous le savez déjà) pendant les vacances de Noël.  Dès maintenant, réservez les 28 et 29 décembre sur votre agenda !

After a 4 year sabbatical, Pleins & Déliés is swinging back into full action!

Magali and I are planning a CROP for the 28th and 29th of December. You know, Christmas is over, there's not much left to yet for New Year's Eve ... so it's an ideal moment to get away and do something JUST FOR YOU! Mark it on your calendar straight away!

I'll post further details here as we go along. I've also created new sites, one in English and the other in French, but for the moment, only the French is up and running : calligraphie-en-ligne.

Bonsoir ! La semaine est très vite passée ... je l'ai passée avec une plume à une main et la souris à l'autre (oui, je manipule la souris avec ma main gauche), à travailler sur la calligraphie et la mise en page du calendrier 2012. Cela avance ... voici un tout petit aperçu pour vous.
